Hello! I am Eva Aro, and on this website, I share a series of artistic creations generated with the help of the artificial intelligence Midjourney. Through these works, I explore divergent realities that resemble my personal world, a universe filled with diversity, non-normative bodies, and alternative realities. In these images, characters we see every day converge, but they are rarely reflected in most commercial representations that often offer a skewed version of reality, generating frustration and unrealistic expectations.
My goal with this project is to bring to life images and artworks that reflect my vision of the real world, highlighting new queer connections and different ways of perceiving our surroundings and ourselves. Through these pieces, I aspire to celebrate diversity and challenge pre-established conventions, opening doors to a world of creative possibilities and a more inclusive understanding of reality.
In the Bounds of Censorship
When creating these types of characters and scenarios, I often have to write very explicit phrases that sometimes violate community standards. Words that are typically censored include ‘lesbian‘, ‘butch‘, ‘fat‘, and ‘ugly‘. In describing this series of characters, I also encounter censorship in OpenAI’s Chat GPT and Google’s Bard Search Assistant, where, when requesting translations of certain descriptions deemed offensive, I’m forced to resort to Google Translate. In this case, the translator is impartial and does not censor my words, as it still lacks awareness of the full context of what is being written.
These artificial intelligences are constrained by censorship of certain topics, words, or forbidden areas, and sometimes block other equally valid realities, imposing a world where the standard of beauty remains that of Barbie and Ken. This reinforces stereotypes and prevents new realities that are still considered offensive from emerging.
